Copper-Plated PTFE Flanged Bushings for Folder-Knife Link Pivots

A folding machine’s knife linkage converts actuator or cam motion into a repeated folding stroke. This page covers thin-wall flanged sleeves in the linkage’s oscillating pins, with attention to side-face clearance and the reversing loads at the ends of travel.
Control the linkage side faces without crushing the flange
An SF-1-F split flanged sleeve can provide radial sliding contact with an axial locating face. Show the link thickness, pin shoulder, spacer and retaining fastener as one stack. Specify whether the flange contacts a moving cheek plate or a stationary spacer. Tightening the pin nut must not close the designed running gap by crushing the flange.

Operating conditions and selection boundaries
Supply oscillation angle, cycle rate, linkage force, reversal pattern and pin bending or side loads. Paper dust and adhesive contamination need to be assessed at the actual pivot. Identify any adjustment that changes the linkage angle or pushes the pin out of alignment.
Copper plating is not a substitute for a contamination-control or lubrication review. This bearing page does not define the folding machine’s guarding or knife timing.
Specify the exact material standard, alloy or composite construction and any certificate requirements in the enquiry. Different national material designations are not treated as automatic equivalents. Availability and manufacturing details are confirmed in the quotation.
Dimensions and drawing information for quotation
| Drawing feature | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Link stack | Link thickness, shoulder length, spacers, retaining nut and side clearance. |
| Sleeve dimensions | Bore, housing bore, wall thickness, length, flange diameter and thickness. |
| Folding motion | Angle, frequency, force versus stroke and reversal load. |
| Surface and finish | Pin material/finish, composite specification and copper-plated outer finish requirement. |
Include quantity, units, drawing revision, inspection requirements and delivery destination. Distinguish measured wear from the intended new-part dimensions.
Installation and acceptance checks
Press the sleeve with tooling that supports the specified component surfaces and protects the flange. Assemble spacers and retention to the approved stack dimensions. Check free oscillation at every adjustment position and verify that fastener tightening does not change the running gap.
Confirm the lubrication and inspection plan for the specified material and duty. The application name does not establish a load rating, service-life guarantee or approval for the complete machine.
Frequently asked questions
Can the flange be clamped to remove side play?
Only the approved spacer and shoulder stack should control end play; clamping the sliding flange can bind the link.
Can a straight sleeve replace this flanged part?
The axial locating function must be provided elsewhere and the stack rechecked before substitution.
Which load should be quoted?
Provide the pivot reaction or linkage force over the folding stroke, including reversals and any jam condition defined by the machine designer.
