CuSn12 Oil-Grooved Bushings for Calender Roll Journals

CuSn12 Oil-Grooved Bushings for Calender Roll Journals

For a calender roll journal already designed around a lubricated plain bearing, submit a CuSn12 oil-grooved sleeve bushing enquiry with the bearing housing and oil-feed drawing. This page concerns the journal support of a rotating roll, where nip force, warm-up and lubricant delivery must be reviewed together. It is not a proposal to replace a rolling bearing using the same envelope.

Review nip force, roll alignment and lubricant routing

Roll loading can bend the journal and change the bearing contact pattern. Supply normal nip force, temporary overloads, roll weight, bearing spacing and the direction of force relative to the housing oil inlet. Include operating speed, start-up sequence and reversing conditions. The groove plan should follow the bearing designer’s load and lubrication analysis; copying a visible helix from a sample does not establish the correct oil distribution.

CuSn12 is a tin-bronze material requirement, not a description of an oil-impregnated bearing. WISCO identifies the cast designation CuSn12-C under EN 1982; the quotation must settle the exact designation and casting route rather than infer them from a short material name. This dense metal sleeve requires the agreed lubricant supply. Oil-groove pitch, depth and endpoints affect the remaining contact surface and potential leakage.

Cold dimensions must allow for the operating assembly

Provide the journal, housing and lubricant temperatures during start-up and steady production. Thermal conditions, interference and housing stiffness affect the installed clearance; no universal cold fit is assigned here. Review shaft finish, hardness and alignment for the selected bronze. Interrupted oil supply, contaminated recirculation or an unverified high-speed conversion needs engineering review before a replacement order is released.

Oil circuit Feed-hole coordinates, groove section/pitch/handedness, groove endpoints, oil grade and supply method.
Bearing arrangement Housing section, bearing spacing, load direction, axial location and any separate thrust support.
Operating duty Nip force, speed range, starts/stops, roll deflection and journal/housing temperatures.
Material and order Exact CuSn12 specification, casting route, finish, inspection needs, quantity and drawing revision.

Installation and selection checks

Clean the oil passages and verify their connection through the housing and sleeve. Use the approved fitting method and protect groove edges. Measure installed bore and alignment across the roll supports, then confirm the specified running clearance. Establish oil delivery before commissioning. Follow the machine’s controlled run-in procedure and investigate temperature rise or unequal journal movement before increasing nip load.

Frequently asked questions

Can the groove pump oil in either direction?

A helical appearance alone does not establish pumping behaviour. State rotation and reversal, feed pressure, end restrictions and groove geometry for review.

Is CuSn12 automatically interchangeable with C90700?

No. Treat each grade and product standard as an independent requirement. Composition limits, casting route and acceptance criteria must be checked before any substitution.

Can I quote from bore, diameter and length only?

Those dimensions start the enquiry, but a functional journal replacement also needs the oil-feed connections, installed fit, shaft condition, temperatures and load direction.
