Bronze Pivot Bushings for Cranes and Lifting Equipment
Solutions / Cranes and lifting equipment
Bronze pivot bushings for cranes and lifting equipment support drawing-defined joints that move under load. BONIU BEARING reviews graphite-plugged sleeves, flanged bushings and thrust washers for boom, linkage and platform mechanisms. The correct enquiry identifies each joint and its load cases rather than relying on the machine’s rated lifting capacity.
A crane’s rated capacity does not directly determine the bearing pressure at a boom pivot. Linkage geometry, load direction, support spacing and impact influence the joint forces. Axial restraint and pin retention also need separate attention when choosing a flange or thrust washer.
Application positions and bearing choices
| Position | Product family to review | Critical enquiry details |
|---|---|---|
| Boom or linkage pivot | Graphite-plugged sleeve subject to design review | Joint forces, oscillation angle, pin dimensions and bearing span |
| Aerial-work-platform pivot | Custom copper-alloy bushing | Motion frequency, alignment, weather exposure and inspection access |
| Located sleeve | Flanged bushing where specified | Housing shoulder, retention and axial clearance |
| Axial side-load interface | Separate graphite-plugged thrust washer | Thrust load, face area, counterface and fixing features |
Material, fit and operating conditions
For a graphite-plugged bushing for a crane boom pivot, specify the approved alloy, pin finish and lubrication arrangement. Heavy-load oscillating bronze bushings require a review of peak load and movement duty together. Outdoor exposure makes sealing and corrosion relevant. Marine or offshore operation introduces additional material and water-chemistry requirements.
Assembly requirements
Bearing manufacture to a drawing does not certify the lifting assembly. The equipment designer must approve load cases, clearances, retention and any proposed substitution. Do not infer a complete crane’s load rating or inspection interval from a bushing material description.
Compare the specified alloy with our brass and bronze grade information. Send a required grade or standard explicitly; similar alloy names do not establish automatic equivalence.

What to send for a quotation
- Joint and assembly drawings with each bearing location identified
- Normal, peak and exceptional joint-load cases supplied by the designer
- Oscillation angle, operating frequency and loaded idle conditions
- Pin, housing, seals, lubrication and environmental exposure
- Required material records, inspections, quantity and acceptance criteria
We review drawings or samples before confirming material, dimensions, availability and lead time. Agree first-article and inspection requirements at the enquiry stage so both sides use the same acceptance criteria.
Frequently asked questions
Can you quote a custom crane-linkage bushing?
Yes. Send the drawing, intended position, material and joint duty. We review dimensions and inspection requirements before confirming the quotation.
Can a flange replace a separate thrust washer?
Only if the flange is designed and specified as an axial sliding face. A locating flange alone does not establish the required thrust capability.
Is self-lubricating the same as no inspection?
No. Wear, pin condition, seals and retention remain inspection items. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s maintenance and acceptance requirements.
