Plain and Linear Bushings for Automation Equipment
Solutions / Automation and linear guidance
Plain and linear bushings for automation equipment should match the shaft support, motion and cleanliness requirements. BONIU BEARING reviews LM-OP open-type graphite-plugged linear bushings, steel-housed copper-alloy linear bearings, PTFE composite sleeves and oil-impregnated sintered bronze bushings. These families solve different guidance and lubrication problems.
A supported linear shaft, a reciprocating guide and a small rotating motor shaft should not share one default bushing. Start with the motion and shaft arrangement. An open-type LM-OP part has a slot to clear the shaft support, while a closed sleeve requires a compatible unsupported travel path.
Application positions and bearing choices
| Position | Product family to review | Critical enquiry details |
|---|---|---|
| Supported linear shaft | LM-OP open-type graphite-plugged linear bushing | Support profile, opening orientation, shaft size and load direction |
| Housed linear guide | Steel-housed copper-alloy linear bearing | Mounting design, shaft alignment, stroke and side load |
| Compact reciprocating guide | PTFE composite sleeve after duty review | Shaft finish, working clearance, travel and liner requirements |
| Small rotating mechanism or motor | Oil-impregnated sintered bronze bushing | Speed, oil type, temperature and housing heat dissipation |
Material, fit and operating conditions
For a graphite linear bushing for automation equipment, provide shaft support details and the direction of load relative to the opening. For a PTFE composite bushing for a reciprocating shaft, define start-stop duty and required cleanliness. A sintered bronze bushing for a small motor carries oil within its porous structure; it is not the same as a solid graphite-plugged bearing.
Assembly requirements
Changing from rolling to plain guidance changes friction and clearance behaviour. An LM-style size does not establish performance equivalence to a ball bushing. Oil-impregnated bronze may be unsuitable where oil contamination is prohibited, and food-contact or medical approval must be checked against the specific material documentation.
Compare the specified alloy with our brass and bronze grade information. Send a required grade or standard explicitly; similar alloy names do not establish automatic equivalence.

What to send for a quotation
- Bearing and assembly drawings, shaft support and mounting details
- Rotation, reciprocation or oscillation, plus speed and travel
- Load direction, side load, working clearance and alignment
- Shaft finish, temperature, cleanliness and lubricant restrictions
- Part family, quantity, drawing revision and acceptance inspection
We review drawings or samples before confirming material, dimensions, availability and lead time. Agree first-article and inspection requirements at the enquiry stage so both sides use the same acceptance criteria.
Frequently asked questions
When is an LM-OP open-type bushing needed?
It is considered for a continuously supported shaft where the opening must pass the support. Confirm slot geometry, mounting and load orientation on the assembly drawing.
Are sintered bronze and graphite-plugged bushings interchangeable?
No. Their lubrication mechanism, structure and operating requirements differ. Match the specified part family to the actual speed, temperature and cleanliness conditions.
Can you review a custom plain bearing for an assembly machine?
Yes. Share the drawing, shaft arrangement and motion duty. We review material, geometry and inspection requirements before quotation.
